We welcome submissions!

Each issue of Science Write Now is centred around a theme, which is announced on this page and in our newsletter. We welcome new or previously published poems, short stories, book reviews, or literary or personal essays.

Current call for submissions: Edition #9 ‘Migration’
In this next edition, we’ll be looking at migration in all its science-associated forms – for example, the movements of animals, DNA, people, stories, cells; journeys and their destinations; the traces of the past in the present; the transmission of knowledge or ideas; shifts in the arrival timing of birds or butterflies due to climate change. We would love to hear what the science of migration means to your life and understanding! Please send us your creative essays, fiction, poems, reviews, craft, and graphic representations of migration.

We publish new and reprinted original work. Submissions will close 30 April, 2023.

Submit here.

We pay $0.30/word up to $390 for new writing, $70 for a single poem or $180 for three poems, $40 for reprint stories or essays, and $20 for reprint poems.

We rely on funding and donations and have introduced a $3.00 AUD submission fee to ensure our content remains accessible and open access. Please note that we offer a fee waiver for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and anyone undergoing financial hardship—please email your work directly to hello@sciencewritenow.com.
